I have had the honour of being Chair of the CIOB Belfast Hub committee for a two-year term. Ensuring the activities of the CIOB locally are aligned with the corporate objectives of the Institute has been a challenging, exciting, and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Highlights of my term include:
Contributing to the growth of the CIOB Annual Dinner in Belfast, and welcoming Stephen Martin, the Director-General of the IoD, as a guest speaker to over 200 members earlier this year.
Helping to develop and deliver a diverse programme of events for members.
Hosting committee meetings at companies that have an interest in the work of the CIOB to create strategic alliances.
Hosting two CIOB Graduation events at Titanic Belfast, where members were recognised for gaining chartered membership of the CIOB. 50 graduates attended the most recent event, which was the largest ever CIOB Graduation outside of London.
Developing the profile of the CIOB through editorial and commentary, along with a programme of advertisements in local construction industry magazines.
Being a judge for the CEF/Specify Construction Excellence Awards.
Attending local construction industry events as CIOB representative.
Attending the five-day CIOB Members’ Forum in Toronto and meeting construction industry leaders from throughout the world.
My thanks to the committee, which comprises Gary Blair, Frank Farrell, Sean O’Brien, Noel Mathers, Emma Brennan, John Greig, Philip Corr, and Roger Gillespie. Each of the committee members contribute their time to help deliver events for the benefit of local members. I am delighted that Sarah Sharpe will be a welcome new addition to the committee in 2019.
I would also like to thank the work of Julie Fitzsimmons, CIOB Member Services & Events Co-ordinator, and Rachel Corbally, CIOB Development Manager, for their proactive work in supporting the committee since taking up their posts earlier this year.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the role of being Chair and now look forward to supporting Gary Blair who takes over as Chair on the 1st January 2019. I encourage all CIOB members to support Gary during his two-year term. Gary will provide strong leadership to the committee and will be an asset to the Institute and its members.
