Many graduates, as well as students are about to enter the world of work in September. For anyone who is contemplating which company to join, my advice is to consider joining a Tier 2 rather than a Tier 1 contractor. People think that the biggest companies offer the best experience and work environment. That is not always the case; a smaller company can often offer a better spread of work experience and can provide a better sense of team atmosphere for its employees. For people new to the construction industry, that is important, particularly for young people who need to quickly get a sense of belonging and feel valued. There are many medium size successful contractors who undertake work in various sectors. They mostly all have their ISO certifications, policies in place, and employee initiatives. There are some great opportunities nowadays as these contractors are competing to attract and retain the best personnel.
